Game Report - First Settlement Mission

The sun cast long shadows across the abandoned rural settlement as three survivors approached their first real chance at sanctuary. Andy "Bug out" Hayes readied his bow, Claire "Admin" Morrison checked her pistol, and Bruno "Cairnsy" Wilson hefted his shotgun. Their mission was clear: clear all zombies from the area and claim the small house as their new base of operations.

The battlefield stretched before them with scattered containers, vehicles, and debris providing both cover and obstacles. Zombies wandered aimlessly through the area, unaware of the approaching threat. A stranger could be seen moving silently near the target building, potentially another survivor to rescue if the zombies did not get them.

The initial assault went smoothly. Andy's bow sang silently as he dropped the first zombie with practiced precision. Bruno moved into position and his shotgun roared, taking down another undead threat. Claire flanked wide with her pistol, adding her own deadly contribution. The noise of gunfire began to stir the remaining zombies into aggressive action.

As the battle progressed, the survivors found themselves facing increasing pressure. Failed shots awakened dormant zombies, and soon a dangerous horde began forming at the far end of the settlement. The trio had to carefully balance aggression with tactical withdrawal, using the building's cover to avoid being overwhelmed.

Critical moments emerged when Claire found herself in close combat with a zombie, forcing her to use a desperate shove manoeuvre that sent the creature flying off the battlefield entirely. The team's coordination proved crucial as they methodically eliminated threats while avoiding the growing zombie horde.

In the final phase, all three survivors successfully breached the target building, making contact with the stranger inside. As the zombie horde crashed through the trees outside, the survivors barricaded themselves within their new sanctuary, claiming victory through tactical superiority and careful resource management.

Battle Report Setup Details

1. Mission Details

  • Mission Type: Start a new community.

  • Objective: Eliminate all zombies in the area and secure the building for use as a base

  • Victory Condition: No survivors outside building and no zombies within six inches.

  • Key Features: Small house with barricaded sliding doors, containers with resource tokens, scattered vehicles and debris

Step 2.1 Zombies:

  • 10 Zombies deployed as per mission setup

3. Apply Pre-Game Skills

  • Scout skill: Relocated one distant resource token to a more accessible position

  • Tactics skill: Provided three rerolls for the mission

4. Deployment

  • All survivors deployed in corner behind shipping container – noted as corner 1 (clockwise for corners 2-4 – based on a D8 roll, 1-2=1, 3-4=2, 5-6=3, 7-8=4).

Turn 1

Initial engagement with survivors taking strategic positions and eliminating first zombies with ranged attacks.

Survivor Activation

  • Andy: Moved behind container door, shot and killed zombie with bow (archery skill 4, needed 3, successful)

  • Bruno: Moved for cover, shot zombie down the path with shotgun (successful kill, noise within 12 inches)

  • Claire: Moved to position, shot zombie on car trailer with pistol (successful kill, noise within 8 inches)

Zombie Activation

  • Furthest zombie turned aggressive but did not move

  • New zombie spawned in corner 1

Turn 2

Survivors continued clearing threats while Claire began resource collection operations.

Survivor Activation

  • Claire: Moved to containers, scavenged two items (scavenge skill utilised)

  • Bruno: Shot newly spawned zombie (successful), moved to new position

  • Andy: Moved to building side, failed shot at distant zombie (zombie activated and moved forward)

Zombie Activation

  • Aggressive zombie moved closer to survivors

  • New zombie spawned in corner 3

Turn 3

Pressure increased as zombies closed distance, forcing survivors into more aggressive tactics.

Survivor Activation

  • Andy: Successfully shot aggressive zombie, moved along path (zombie appeared at window)

  • Claire: Attempted shot through window, failed (zombie broke through and fell to ground)

  • Bruno: Flanking shot with shotgun, successful elimination

Zombie Activation

  • Remaining zombies grouped in corner

  • New zombie spawned in corner 1

Turn 4

Combat intensified as survivors dealt with multiple failed shots and zombie reactions.

Survivor Activation

  • Claire: Moved around building to better position

  • Bruno: Failed shotgun attack on zombie

  • Andy: Climbed over hedge, successfully eliminated threatening zombie

Zombie Activation

  • Horde formation began, moving and breaking fence

  • New zombie spawned in corner 3

Turn 5

Resource collection continued as horde threat developed in the distance.

Survivor Activation

  • Andy: Shot and eliminated zombie in back corner

  • Claire: Crossed building, interacted with loot (gained two more resources)

  • Bruno: Positioned within sight of zombie but maintained safe distance

Zombie Activation

  • Horde moved down the road due to random direction roll

  • New zombie spawned in corner one

Turn 6

Building penetration attempts began as zombie pressure mounted from multiple directions.

Survivor Activation

  • Bruno: Failed shot through window, retreated to avoid zombie rush

  • Andy: Successfully eliminated activated zombie

  • Claire: Performed two move actions around building edge

Zombie Activation

  • Horde moved back up the road

  • New zombie spawned in corner 4

Turn 7

Critical close combat engagement as Claire faced direct zombie contact.

Survivor Activation

  • Andy: Shot furthest horde member (successful elimination)

  • Claire: Failed pistol shot, zombie rushed into close combat

  • Bruno: Failed long-range shotgun shot at distant zombie

Zombie Activation

  • Aggressive zombies closed distance

  • Close combat initiated with Claire

  • New zombie spawned in corner 4.

Turn 8

Desperate manoeuvres as Claire used shove tactics to escape close combat while team coordinated elimination strikes.

Survivor Activation

  • Andy: Successfully eliminated zombie closest to team

  • Claire: Used shove manoeuvre (tactics reroll utilised), successfully pushed zombie off table, shot and eliminated last aggressive zombie

  • Bruno: Moved into support position without triggering zombie reactions

Zombie Activation

  • Furthest zombie turned aggressive

  • New zombie spawned behind aggressive zombie corner 3.

Turn 9 to 13

Final approach to target building as survivors made contact with stranger and secured the building.

Survivor Activation

  • Claire: Moved to engage stranger, and then to building.

  • Bruno: Moved to door and entered building

  • Andy: Moved to building with Bruno

Zombie Activation

  • Horde crashed through trees, not within range of survivors

Mission concluded successfully with all survivors secured within the building and zombie threat contained outside.

Final Status

  • All survivors safely within building

  • No zombies within six inches of building

  • Mission objectives achieved

  • Horde continued crashing through exterior areas
