5 Parsecs from Home - Battle Report 1 - Ambushed at the Starport.

I have started a new 5 parsecs campaign, and thought doing some battle reports would be fun. I have been recording the audio and using my work AI tool, I built a template that turns the recording into the battle report, and speeds up the typing. And it lets me do a cinematic summary and then a turn by turn detail.

Game Report - Mission One

The crew of La Chasse Eternelle, known as the Chase, descended onto New Baldwin's World at Sagrama Starport. Captain Cade Janvier led his Coinbreaker crew in their search for employment when tensions escalated quickly. The Feral Krag Sarrn had an altercation with a starport worker during landing, which seemed inconsequential at the time. After securing a contract with the Calyx Miranda Corps and dealing with the harbour master, the crew found themselves ambushed by the local 27th - a gang of starport scum who had taken offence to their presence.

The battle erupted in the gloomy conditions of the starport, with visibility reduced to a maximum of nine inches, creating a murky, atmospheric confrontation. Six starport scum confronted the crew: four regulars armed with scrap pistols, a specialist wielding a clingfire pistol, and a lieutenant also carrying a scrap pistol. Despite the crew's superior training and equipment, the confined space and poor visibility made for a tense engagement.

The crew's coordinated assault proved decisive. XF2 opened the hostilities by eliminating the first scummer with plasma fire, causing several enemies to retreat. Captain Janvier charged into close combat, using his boarding sabre to devastating effect against the clingfire specialist. The warbot continued its efficient elimination of targets, vaporising the lieutenant with precise plasma shots. Lira Klyne and Mira Vex contributed with accurate laser fire, systematically clearing the remaining threats. Jurgen 3 added to the mayhem with his displacer device and blast pistol, finishing the last scummer. The starport scum were completely routed within four turns, establishing the Coinbreaker crew's reputation at Sagrama Starport.

Battle Report Set up details:

  • Mission details - The crew was ambushed by starport scum while preparing for their contracted job with Calyx Miranda Corps. The mission became a defensive engagement with the objective to eliminate all hostile forces.

  • Enemy details - Six starport scum from the local 27th gang: four regular scum with scrap pistols, one specialist with clingfire pistol, and one lieutenant with scrap pistol. They operated as defensive AI, seeking cover and weapon range while remaining in their initial deployment zone.

  • Pre game events - Gloomy conditions reduced maximum visibility to 9 inches. The crew failed to seize initiative, resulting in normal turn sequence.

Turn 1

Both sides manoeuvred for position with no shots fired, establishing defensive positions across the starport terrain.

Content:

  • Initiative Phase - 3 of the crew were able to act.

  • Fast action Phase - Mira Vex and Krag Sarrn advanced to forward positions, while XF2 moved around terrain obstacles.

  • Enemy Phase - All six starport scum advanced toward weapon range while maintaining cover behind barrels, fuel tanks, and starship hulls.

  • Slow Phase - Jurgen 3, Lira Klyne, and Captain Janvier repositioned to establish firing lines.

  • End of turn Phase - No morale checks required as no casualties occurred.

Turn 2

Forces continued closing distance with scattered ineffective fire as both sides sought advantageous positions.

Content:

  • Initiative Phase - Limited quick actions rolled, with only Lira Klyne and Krag Sarrn able to act in the fast phase.

  • Fast action Phase - Lira moved behind a power generator while Krag positioned behind starship wing cover.

  • Enemy Phase - Starport scum advanced to better firing positions behind benches, fuel depots, and the enforcer gunship, still maintaining defensive positioning in their deployment zone.

  • Slow Phase - XF2 moved behind ammo boxes and opened fire with plasma rifle but failed to hit due to target being in cover. Jurgen 3 and Mira Vex also fired without effect. Captain Janvier repositioned without engaging.

  • End of turn Phase - No casualties resulted in no morale tests.

Turn 3

XF2 drew first blood while enemy return fire stunned Lira Klyne, escalating the engagement significantly.

Content:

  • Initiative Phase - Only one quick action available, assigned to XF2.

  • Fast action Phase - XF2 repositioned and fired his overheated plasma rifle, scoring a hit and eliminating the first starport scummer, causing the lieutenant and another scummer to retreat.

  • Enemy Phase - Remaining scum advanced within pistol range. One scummer successfully hit Lira Klyne, stunning her. The clingfire specialist moved to flanking position but missed his shots at the wounded Klyne.

  • Slow Phase - Captain Janvier fired his auto rifle without effect. Jurgen 3 attempted to use his blast pistol unsuccessfully. The stunned Lira fired her infantry laser but missed. Mira Vex also failed to hit her target.

  • End of turn Phase - Starport scum passed their morale test despite losing one member.

Turn 4

The crew's coordinated assault overwhelmed the remaining scum, with multiple eliminations leading to complete enemy rout.

Content:

  • Initiative Phase - Excellent initiative roll provided four quick actions for the crew.

  • Fast action Phase - Captain Janvier charged into close combat with the clingfire specialist, using his boarding sabre to eliminate the target, causing a regular scummer to retreat. XF2 fired two shots at the exposed lieutenant, eliminating him and causing another retreat. Lira Klyne shot and eliminated another scummer, causing his companion to flee. Mira Vex repositioned and eliminated the fleeing scummer with her infantry laser.

  • Enemy Phase - Only one scummer remained, taking cover but unable to engage effectively.

  • Slow Phase - Krag Sarrn repositioned for better angles. Jurgen 3 used his displacer device to teleport closer to the final enemy and eliminated him with his blast pistol, clearing the battlefield.

  • End of turn Phase - All starport scum eliminated, battle concluded.

POST Battle Report

Post-battle events and crew development following the successful engagement:

  • Rival Status - The local 27th gang remains as rivals, failing their removal roll and continuing to avoid the Coinbreaker crew.

  • Patron Status - Not applicable for this engagement.

  • Quest Progress - No active quest progress affected.

  • Payment - The crew earned 6 credits for completing the engagement successfully.

  • Injuries and Recovery - No injuries sustained by crew members.

  • Loot - Battlefield search yielded a data stick with quest rumour and 1 additional credit. Valuable materials worth 8 credits (6+2) were also recovered, totalling 15 credits gained.

  • Experience and upgrades - Captain Janvier earned 4 experience points for first casualty (total 7), spending 6 to increase toughness to 4. All other eligible crew earned 3 experience: Jurgen 3 (total 3), Lira Klyne (total 3), Mira Vex (total 3), Krag Sarrn (total 6, spent 6 for toughness 4). XF2 received combat skill upgrade using 7 credits, improving to combat +2.

  • Advanced training - Not conducted this turn.

  • Purchase items - XF2's combat enhancement purchased for 7 credits, reducing crew funds to 18 credits total.

  • Campaign event - Chance meeting resulted in new ally: Ryn Tazelle, a human orphan/petty criminal with discovery motivation, equipped with grapple launcher.

  • Character event - Mira Vex gained resilience, allowing her to ignore the next injury result.

  • Galactic War Progress - Not applicable.

Campaign Turn 2

Summary of activities and preparations before the next engagement:

  • Upkeep and Ship Repairs - Upkeep cost 2 credits for seven crew members. Ship debt payment of 4 credits made, reducing total debt to 7 credits. Total expenditure: 7 credits, reducing funds to 11 credits.

  • Assign and resolve crew tasks - Mira Vex and Rintazel conducted training (both gained 1 XP, totals: Mira 4, Rintazel 1). Krag Sarrn and XF2 performed decoy operations. Captain Janvier and Jurgen 3 went exploring: Janvier discovered another quest rumour, Jurgen found a tip to trade in rivals. Lira Klyne conducted trading, acquiring trade goods.

  • Determine Job offers - Confirmed Calyx Miranda Corporation contract requiring movement through area with priority target elimination.

  • Assign equipment - Rintazel equipped with military rifle. Krag Sarrn retained hunting rifle.

  • Resolve any rumours - Three quest rumours now accumulated, building toward quest activation.

  • Choose battle - Next engagement confirmed: caught off guard scenario against Guild forces including one Guild Trooper, one Priority Guild Trooper, and one Mark 2 Security Bot. Mission requires moving through corporate city terrain to eliminate priority target. All crew act in slow phase of round one due to being caught off guard.
